Let It Go…

May 15, 2014

There comes a time in every person’s life that God is saying, “Out with the old and in with the new.”  That may actually be a paraphrase of what He says because I’ve never read those exact words in the Bible.  But the meaning is still the same!

I had an eye opening experience yesterday when I realized that I had lost my favorite hair brush… that I bought in prison!  So how can a prison brush be a favorite brush you may ask?  Or maybe you’re thinking, “Why in the world did you bring it home with you?”  Well that is besides the point of this story, but I will tell you that I was a bit attached to this brush after using for it for 3 years.  It had a good feel to it, for being a dollar store brush.

But last night, when I couldn’t find it, I heard the words, “Let It Go!”

This is not the first time I’ve heard these words lately.  These next few lines might sound familiar because I have done this already 2-3 times and written about it in blogs, but that is because it is a life lesson for me and I keep having to go back to it and learn it all over cause I won’t just LET GO!  So… I did another cleaning out of the closet and tried on every “little girl” shirt I had been keeping “just in case” and I put them in a pile.  Really now… I was 100 lbs… size 0… that should never be the case for me again!  So why am I holding on to these clothes?

Let It Go!

Of course this has me thinking about everything else in my life that I am holding on to that God is saying “Let It Go.”  This season in my life is one of new beginnings.  This season is the beginning of the rest of my life.  God is doing some pretty incredible things and bringing new family, new friends and new opportunities in abundance.  And I think I need to evaluate what it is that I need to let be the past.

I kinda feel like I have done this a lot over the last few years.  But really, that is a part of life.  Overcoming things of the past and moving into the things God has planned for you now.  And re-evaluating is something we should be doing on a regular basis to make sure the devil has not gained any ground in our lives.

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily entangle us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…” Hebrews 12:1

If you are reading this blog, I’m sure God is pricking your heart about something in your life that could entangle you and take you backwards.  Just Let It Go.

“I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” Philippians 3:13-14

By the way… I got a new brush… a better one!
