I always loved the scripture in Malachi 3:10 where God says “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
I have always wondered if this scripture was true. How cool is it that the one place in the Bible where God is saying “TEST ME” is really so that He can bless us! Nowhere else in the Bible does He tell us to test Him. We are actually told NOT to test the Lord. So I’ve just been curious as to if this works.
I never tithed in my life. I threw a dollar in every so often… more if I felt guilty at the time. But I never saw tithing as an offering. Of course they say it’s an offering… but I never saw the truth in that until I read it in His Word and understood that all blessings come from Him in the first place, so it’s only right that we give it back to Him. So when I saw this commandment… this opportunity to give back to Him from what He has given me, I knew I wanted to try it… to “test Him” and see if there really was a blessing attached.
Now I’m not saying I’m expecting a blessing, but I kinda am cause HE SAID IT! And His Word never returns void. And I’m also not boasting in myself or bragging about my tithe, but I am just too excited to see the blessings come to pass, that I can’t help but talk about it!
So what I have seen in my life so far, is that I have more money in the bank than I have ever had in my life… and that is ridiculous because I was a drug dealer and I had a lot of money at a lot of times! I also picked up a side job as a part time nanny and a house sitter which is bringing in more money that is being saved. I don’t have a house or a car payment. And my home is slowly coming together with all the items I need to live and it is affordable! It is a slow process, but it is in His perfect timing that all these blessings are coming.
So I tested Him… and He came through… Surprised??? Yeah… me neither!
“You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land he is giving you… The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left.”(Deuteronomy 28:3-14)
