There is always that one thing in your life that you want more than anything else! You think about it at least once a day… probably even more. You pray about it. You hope for it. You might even dream about it at night. We’ve all got one. And it might change over time. But it’s always there.
For years I didn’t know what it was. I wanted a little bit of everything. I wanted to be loved. And so I looked for it with all my heart. But I was looking for the wrong kind of love. Then when I was arrested, that one thing changed to wanting to get out of prison. That’s all I thought about. It consumed me. And there is something now that I want more than anything else, and it is between me and God. He knows what it is, and He has told me that I will have it in HIS timing.
But what I was thinking about was how many lessons there are behind longing for something in this world.
The first lesson is that God is MORE THAN ENOUGH for us! He alone is all we need. He is our ALL IN ALL! “For BY HIM ALL THINGS were created that are in heaven and that are on earth… ALL THINGS were created THROUGH HIM and FOR HIM. And He is BEFORE ALL THINGS, and IN HIM ALL THINGS CONSIST.” (Colossians 1:16-17)
The next lesson is patience. When we wait on God, our waiting is not in vain. Psalm 62:5 says “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.” Putting our hope and expectation in Him is what keeps my desire in His will, because I am expecting HIM to fulfill it. I don’t have to fulfill it on my own.
The next lesson is that He will provide everything we need in this life. Philippians 4:19 says “My God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus! YES! That means that we shall never be in want as long as we are trusting Him and looking to Him to provide for us. Which brings me to my next lesson.
Psalms 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” As long as we are delighting in the Lord, we will have all we desire. Our desire should be HIM ALONE! And then our other desires will fall into place.
And the last lesson I’m going to talk about today is how His blessing is so much better than anything we could ever ask or imagine! “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22. When we wait for HIS blessing to come into our lives, it will be given with no strings attached. Given with complete joy.
So the moral of the blog is to trust the Lord with all our desires and all our longings. He will fulfill them in HIS time. And it will be exactly what we need!
