“Delight yourself in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
As I read this verse the day after Christmas, I ask myself what my true desires are.
At Christmas time, isn’t it normal to desire presents and good food? And the Word says if you delight yourself in the Lord, you will get these things.
But what I see happening is that when you delight yourself in the Lord, these desires become less important and your desires start to line up with what God wants for you.
A huge theme in my life lately has been not looking to things of this earth. It is so easy to get caught up in what I used to have and what I think I should have now. And I have to constantly remind myself not to “store up for myself treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for myself treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
I love getting older because Christmas isn’t about presents anymore. I was content just watching the kids tear through their presents… oh so sweet!
If only we could remember through the rest of the year that life isn’t about things. Life is about giving, family, serving and laying up treasures in Heaven! And not letting your heart get attached to this earth. It is only temporary!
“A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.” (Psalm 37:16)
