Last night I was praying about what my Scripture would be for the year and I thought it would be about taking possession of the promised land. I even wrote that in my journal. But I didn’t know what the verse is yet.
This morning I open Streams in the Desert and the verse is Deuteronomy 11:11-12, “The land you are…to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys, that drink rain from Heaven. It is a land the LORD cares for, the eyes of the LORD are continually on it from the beginning of the year to the end.”
The devotional starts out with, “Before us lies a new year, and we are going forward to take possession of it.” And on the mp3 is playing, “You make all things new…and I will follow You forward.” What PERFECT timing! I am moving forward into the land the Lord is giving me. And what He has been trying to show me is that He will sustain me in this land. He is the One who cares for and watches over the land. HE is the One who has driven out all the inhabitants before me. And He wants me to be wholly dependent on Him!
This verse tells me there will be hills and valleys. It is not going to be smooth sailing just because the Lord cares for the land. I still have to go through some valleys. But the eyes of the Lord are always upon the land, so He will guide me through the valleys.
I thought it kinda fitting that the Scripture in both the Daily Light and Streams for yesterday, December 31st, was, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.” (1 Samuel 7:12). He has been my help and supplied every one of my needs thus far, and He is not finished yet!
As I read a little farther, Deuteronomy 11:24 say, “Every place whereon the soles of your foot shall tread shall be yours.” I wrote this verse last night from Joshua 1:3. I wrote a blog about it and here it is in another chapter–speaking to me!
This is my first verse for 2013. It was the first verse that came to mind last night and I didn’t even know it was somewhere else in the Bible. God brought me straight to it! Thank You Lord!
