“My beloved is mine, and I am His.” (Song of Solomon 2:16)
I always thought this verse referred to a boyfriend or a husband. I remember when I was in high school there was this set of rings at James Avery that had this verse written in Hebrew around the ring. At one point I thought of buying these rings for me and a boyfriend. I had NO IDEA the significance and meaning of this verse.
When I read it now, the first Person that comes to mind is Jesus! My Savior! MY Beloved! My Lover! My Friend! I think of all the other “lovers” I had in the past and how they always came first. Even before myself. And not only boyfriends, but money and drugs. Nice things and attention. It all was put before the One Who loved me the most.
And now all that is gone. There is nothing left BUT HIM! There is no one who can satisfy this longing BUT HIM! There is no one who makes my heart soar BUT HIM! There is no one I can tell my deepest secrets to BUT HIM!
His love for me is “strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.” (Song of Solomon 8:6)
I belong to my Lover, and His desire is for me.” (Song of Solomon 7:10)
