I took my first weekend pass this past weekend and it was awesome! It started Friday night at the house just hanging out…eating at the kitchen table…carrying a sleepy Desiree in from spending time with mom! Then it was off to MY bedroom, where I got to take a shower with NO shower shoes on. As a matter of fact, I walked around barefoot because I could. I even walked in the front yard barefoot…it felt SO GOOD!
Saturday morning I was up before anyone else. I went downstairs to make coffee and I felt funny—like I wasn’t supposed to be walking around alone. It took me a minute to adjust to the fact that this is my HOME! I can do what I want! So, after I searched all the walls for a light switch, I was able to make coffee and get ready for counseling. When I left counseling, I called mom to let her know I was headed home and she said, “Randi, you don’t have to check in with me.” That’s gonna take some getting used to as well. I am an adult and am accountable to myself. My family doesn’t expect me to call every time I change locations.
Sunday I went church with mom and dad. It was so nice to be there in the middle of them. And after church, Shauna and the kids, Aunt Cheryl and my cousin Chris all came over to hang out. Dad made steak fingers, which is the meal I’ve been asking for since before I got out. That was first on my home cooked meal list. I tried to get him to make it for Thanksgiving, but he made turkey instead…not sure what’s up with that.
