So we all know Romans 8:28, “God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” It is a favorite verse for many. The power in this one verse brings peace and comfort to many who are in unpleasant circumstances or during times of disappointment. It is a promise that God is Sovereign, on His Throne and will bring good if we will only look for it, expect it and love Him.
So what I love is when God allows us to see His Word in action. He doesn’t have to show us why He does things a certain way. “His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and his ways higher than our ways.” Isaiah 55:8 And that’s all we really need to know.
Sometimes it is easy to put our hope in that Word and trust God that He knows what’s best. Other times it’s harder to accept because we think our way is better.
So this weekend when I didn’t get to go home on my pass, I was a little devastated. But God allowed me to see into His heart and see just how much He loves me and has a plan for me. He revealed to me why I didn’t go on my pass home.
On Sunday, God showed me an answer to something I had been praying about. It was something I needed to see with my own eyes and if I had been home, I would have missed it. Then I would have continued to walk in circles around this situation.
But when God showed me this, I knew my prayers had been answered. And I am still amazed to see the fingertips of God arrange the events of the weekend to bring all the glory to Himself.
Even in the midst of our disappointments, God is working things for our good. Sometimes He lets us see why He does things a certain way, and others we just have to trust that He knows what’s best.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6
