My first day as a halfway free woman. I say “Halfway” since I am at the Halfway House and there are still many rules and lots of restrictions. I’m getting settled in. I sat thru a 2 hour intake and then a 2 hour orientation. And that’s only the beginning of the orientation. There is a whole week of things I get to do next week to get thru orientation.
I had a pretty amazing reunion today at the bus station. Shauna and my dad were there and they brought me a surprise, my dear friend Cindy, who I got to meet for the first time. I was smiling before I got off the bus because I could see them both with cameras up before I walked down the steps. There were hugs and tears of joy and more hugs. Then Cindy stepped out from behind the wall and Shauna said “Surprise”. I recognized her from the pictures she sent, but she was so much taller than I expected. So when she asked me if I knew who she was, I said “I think so”, but I was already wrapped in her embrace! It was such a special reunion!
Then we headed to McDonalds for some breakfast. More pictures at McDonalds. I think the pictures got posted to Face book in a matter of seconds. That was cool! We sat down to eat and people started calling for me (first Czarina, then mom and Desiree). Then Cindy started pulling out cards. One from Penny saying I can’t wait to meet you and one from the Guys on Tier 7. The card they made is so beautiful. Thank you Guys!! I feel your prayers today! It has a picture drawn of a bird flying toward the sun. I don’t think it is a coincidence that the only wrapping paper Cindy could find is of birds and birdcages, but birds are outside the cages.
As I sit here, I think of a song that Chaplain Neice wrote before I left. He wrote the words and I put it to music and we were going to sing it a church when ladies went home, but we never got the chance. The words say: “Like a bird set free, my sisters, you are free to fly. Fly with strength, fly with wholeness, fly to where you belong. Fly to where your Father will lead, “He’ll put wind in your wings each day.”
What beautiful words to describe my life right now at this moment. I am flying like a bird set free. God is putting the wind in my wings and with Him directing the wind, I’m just gonna let go and soar wherever He leads. Wow!! Now that’s something to get excited over!
