Two of the worst things for a prisoner to endure while incarcerated are the loss of a loved one and to find out your cancer has returned.
My old roommate, Ashley, lost her mother last week. I haven’t seen Ashley much, we have very different schedules and she has kind of strayed away. But she was at church today. I hugged her, I didn’t know what to say. And she sat down beside me to tell me about how God is using her death to show Ashley how precious your words are and to use them wisely because you never know what words will be the last you get to say to someone. See, Ashley’s mom called her grandmother and said she wanted to come home. Her grandmother told her she didn’t have a home there anymore. That night she drank herself to death. Ashley had been holding her own grudge toward her mother because she never wrote to her.
She said from now on, she is going to be quick to forgive and make sure nothing comes out of her mouth that she wouldn’t want to be the last words that person hears.
This morning, Ashley flipped open her Bible to Psalm 27:10 “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.”
She said God gave her this verse to comfort her and let her know that her mom is with Him. One of her mom’s favorite songs was “I Love You Lord”. We Sang it in church in memory of her.
Please pray for Ashley’s family. Also pray that they allow her to leave a few days early to go to the funeral. Her outdate is Sept. 6. If they let her go, she won’t have to come back.
My other prayer request is for my friend Jody. She is a two time cancer survivor and just got the news that it has returned. She is in a lot of pain. But she trusts that God is healing her again!. Just like He did the last two times!
I just can’t imagine having to face these kinds of trials on top of being away from my family. It just goes to show how desperately we need God each and every day. There is no doing time without Him.
Please keep my friends in your prayers. With all the stuff happening here, I see now why God was calling us into a fast.
