The problem with an easy life

June 14, 2012
I have this small journal with quotes and Bible verses on one side of the page and blank lines on the other. I filled it up last year but I still enjoy going through it and reading my thoughts from a year ago.

I wanted to see what I wrote last year on this day, but when I went looking for June 14, I realized I was in New Orleans at this time.

My first entry back was August 18, 2011. The day before I started RDAP. And the entry says, “The problem with an easy life is that it masks our need for God. We are made to depend on Him. In our want – we are searching for Him.”

And I was like, “Wow… that’s a good quote… where’s that from?” And I started looking on the quote page for those words. But I couldn’t find them. And I realized that those are my words. I said that.

Those were the first words on my paper after returning from a very stressful trip from New Orleans.

The quote that inspired those words is:
Each of us may be sure that if God sends us on stony paths, He will provide us with strong shoes, and He will not send us out on any journey for which He does not equip us well.” – Alexander Maclaren

This stony path I am on is making me stronger. And the path won’t be rough forever! Or maybe the rough terrain, the rocks I have to climb over, and the stones that slip under my feet are good for me.

Because they are a reminder to always reach for God’s unchanging Hand. He is always there to guide me!
