HOPE Week 16

April 17, 2012

There are a lot of things I am hoping for right now. I hope my mother and grandmother are healed from their cancer. I hope I can get out of prison early. I hope this letter I sent to the prosecutor requesting him to have compassion on my family and let me out 4 months early gets answered with a “YES.” I hope I can find a job when I get out.

But how does hoping and wishful thinking differ from hoping and expecting? When does dreaming about the answer you are looking for turn into a “hope that does not disappoint?” (Rom 5:5)

I think the answer to this question is faith. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.” (Heb 11:1)
I have faith when I go to God with my requests that it is already done. I don’t have to ask but once – then I just thank Him for it.

I am hoping and expecting these things to come to pass because they are grounded in the Word of God. He IS our Healer. He DOES want us to prosper. And He WILL set the captives free. I can claim with confidence these promises and know that my hope is anchored in His Word!
